Couples & Relationships

ID-100186774-300x199Relationships can be the most important and often the most challenging part of our lives. In couples therapy, we focus on how to resolve conflicts and strengthen your relationship. Couples therapy can turn conflict into an opportunity for closeness, deeper understanding and intimacy.

It doesn’t matter if the relationship is new or decades old, sometimes having a non-judgemental person looking from the outside can add a different perspective that the couple of people might not have thought about. Counseling isn’t the last step before separation but the first step in relationship recovery. There are couples who come to therapy even before an issue arises. No matter the issue, I’m here to help.

FAQs

How do we begin?

The first step is for you to contact me by telephone or e-mail. We will have a brief telephone consultation about what brings you to therapy right now and explore your expectations and goals. If it seems like we could be a good match, we will schedule your first appointment. Our first couple of sessions will involve an evaluation of your needs and problems. By the end of the evaluation, I will be able to offer you some first impressions of what our work might include and a treatment plan to follow. Because I value collaboration in the therapeutic relationship, I will encourage you to share your ideas and feelings about treatment.

How long are the sessions?

Individual sessions are 50-minutes and couples sessions are 80 minutes.

How often will we meet?

I meet most of my clients on a weekly basis. However, depending upon your circumstances or preferences and needs meeting twice a week can be possible.

What would therapy be like?

Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual. However, the therapeutic relationship allows a deeper exploration of meaning and feelings for everyone. Usually, you can expect to discuss the current life events causing your feelings, your personal history relevant to your issue, and your process in therapy. The ultimate purpose of therapy is to help you bring what you learn in the sessions back into your life.

How many sessions do I need?

This depends on your needs and goals in therapy. As we begin our work together, we will explore this more and come to a decision together.
